Easter Offering Circuit service

The Circuit Service at Christ Church, Halton, on 6th April 2008, was held to receive all the money raised in the Circuit’s individual Churches for Missions at Easter - known as the “Easter Offering Service.”

It was led by the Circuit Missions Committee, and the address was given by Deacon Ruth Hinch.

The theme of the service was ‘Making a Difference,’ the premise being that when a creature as small as a butterfly flaps its wings on one side of the world, this will have a tiny, yet definite effect, eventually, on the other side of the world. This is known as ‘The Butterfly Effect.’

Various examples of small changes producing small but important improvements in peoples’ circumstances were given.

Each member of the congregation was given a paper butterfly, and an opportunity to write on it a prayer for change, which he or she would like to see. These were offered to God.

You may be interested in the prayers offered:

  • 32% were for change in Zimbabwe
  • 24% were for peace in Israel & Palestine
  • 11% were for relief of oppression in Tibet
  • 11% were for China, and the freedom of its people.

Remaining prayers were for: -

  • Iran
  • England
  • The whole world
  • Burma
  • India
  • Iraq
  • Africa, especially Darfur and Nigeria
  • America
  • The Philippines

The Circuit Missions committee would like to express its thanks to Ruth Hinch for speaking eloquently on the subject, to Concordia and Thelma Lappage for the music provided, and to members of Christ Church for the drama: - so simple and so well done.

Thank you, too, to anyone who took part, - it was truly a Circuit effort.

The money raised, amount not known as I write this, - will surely make a difference.
